    Plain Language Awards Ceremony

This year???s keynote speaker, Burkey Belser, communicates information to us everyday. As a design consultant for Federal agencies, he developed the Nutrition Facts Food label, the Drug Fact label, and the Energy Guide label. With simple, clean design, Mr. Belser conveys important information at a glance.

At this year???s ceremony we will again honor NIH employees who have developed communication products that are exceptional for their clarity and reader focus. The event will conclude with a reception where we will display the winning products.

  • Demystifying Medicine - Schizophrenia: Clinical and Basic Aspects
    • - Jose Apud (2010/03/04)
    • - Category : Demystifying Medicine
The course includes presentation of patients, pathology, diagnosis and therapy in the context of major disease problems and current research. Primarily directed toward Ph.D. students, fellows, and staff, it is also of interest to medical students and clinicians. The course is designed to help bridge the gap between advances in biology and their application to major human diseases. Each session includes clinical and basic science components which are presented by NIH staff and outside invitees.

    • - The NIH Pain Consortium (2010/03/04)
    • - Category : Conferences
The NIH Pain Consortium will be hosting the Second Annual Symposium on Advances in Pain Research on May 1, 2007. The intent of the symposium is to present new and exciting advances in pain research and pain management, featuring work done through NIH support. Topics will include mechanisms and management of neuropathic pain, visceral pain, inflammatory pain, and treatment-induced pain. A poster session will include a broad selection of current pain research findings presented by young investigators. Members of the extramural scientific community, the NIH scientific community, health care providers, and the public are invited to attend. The event will be held on the NIH campus, Masur Auditorium and will be hosted by the co-Chairs of the NIH Pain Consortium.

  • Regulation of N-Type Calcium Channels in Nociceptive Neurons
    • - Gerald Zamponi, Ph.D., University of Calgary (2010/03/04)
    • - Category : Neuroscience
Dr. Zamponi's research activities focus on the biophysics, molecular biology, electrophysiology, and pharmacology of calcium channels and their roles in neurological disorders. Of particular interest to his laboratory are the molecular determinants that govern the interactions between presynaptic calcium channels, G. proteins and the SNARE protein complex. A second major aspect of his work is centered around the molecular mechanisms which control calcium channel inactivation. Dr. Zamponi's lab works extensively in the area of drug discovery for novel treatments of pain and stroke.
