- Science for All
How does the NIH get the word out about its health research advances and benefits to the public health? How do we develop and disseminate our message? How can we improve the information flow from investigators, extramural staff, and communications offices to the public?
In this forum, individuals from NIH, the media and health organizations will explore various strategies used to share information with our audiences. Learn what you can do to convey the positive impact of NIH on science and health at local, regional and national levels.

Recent advances in understanding cancer biology are beginning to be translated into improvements in diagnosis and treatment of cancer. In the post-genome era, we increasingly rely on strong collaboration between basic and clinical scientists to develop novel approaches for treatment of human disease. The intramural program of the NCI is one of the largest centers for cancer research in the world, with over 300 Principal Investigators, and has a major role in development and implementation of many of new technologies, such as genomics and proteomics.

- Join your colleagues for a look at QUOSA(r) Information Manager. QUOSA is an integrated suite of software tools designed to facilitate full-article retrieval and management, and full-text searching. It simplifies searching, downloading, and managing your PDFs and PubMED(r) citations. But the most exciting and valuable aspect of this product is that it allows you to go from searching and viewing your PubMED results to obtaining the full text (and providing full text searching functionality), even across thousands of articles. QUOSA software is available to all staff at NCI, NEI, NIAID, and certain sections of NICHD and NIMH. NIH Library staff provides reference support to QUOSA users, just as we do for other products frequently used by NIH. (QUOSA software is available only through an individual or institute's purchase of a seat.) Download your copy from

- Making a Successful Transition to Research Career Independence
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) supports and administers programs of research, research training, and resource development with the ultimate goal of preventing and curing childhood psychopathology. A high priority for NIMH is to increase the number of research scientists in child and adolescent research who are prepared to transition to independent research careers. This workshop will focus on providing emerging investigators with resources necessary to initiate and continue upon the path of research independence focused on child and adolescent research. The two day workshop is structured to allow for organized breakout sessions pertinent to attendee interest. Workshop attendees will have the opportunity for one-on-one interaction with Program Officials to discuss their transition to independent research.
