Welcome to Acousitcs and Vibration Laboratory which belongs to Center for Noise and Vibration Control (NOVIC) at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

We have 13 full-time graduate students ; 6 candidates for Ph.D. degree and 1 ones for M.S. degree under the supervision of Professor Yang-Hann Kim. The research that we do here are mostly involved in noise and vibration problems and signal processing with strong emphasis on experiments.

The followings are the specific research areas:
  1) Active Noise Control  2) Sound Visualization  3) Signal Processing  4) Structure-Borne Acoustics  5) Noise Source Identification  6) Duct Acoustics 7) Flow Induced Vibration  8)Generation of Acoustically Bright Zone  9)Passive Noise Control

Recently we have received a worldwide attention for the new technology we have developed called Moving Frame Acoustic Holography, which is a revolutionary method for visualizing sound fields and identifying noise sources. You can find details in Sound Visualization.

And we have completed vector formulation to evaluate the performance of ANC system. This vector formulation can represent controllability (e.g. control source) and observability (e.g. measuring microphone) in terms of two orthogonal vectors. The performance of ANC system can be evaluated by using these orthogonal vectors. You can find details in Active Noise Control
