Biomedical Nanomaterials Lab (BNL) is Prof. Sei Kwang Hahn’s laboratory in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) at the world’s leading research university, POSTECH. BNL is working for smart biomaterials to develop nanomedicines including biosensors, bio-imaging systems, drug delivery systems, regenerative medicines and healthcare wearable devices.
Prof. Hahn published more than 110 journal papers including Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, Progress in Polymer Science, Advanced Materials, and ACS Nano, and filed more than 120 Korean and international patents. He is one of the Editorial Board Members for Biomacromolecules (American Chemical Society), ACS Biomaterials Science and Engineering, and Biomaterials Research. He won the Korean President Award in 2015 and the Korean Minister of Education Award in 2013. He was a visiting professor at the Harvard Medical School in 2012. He is a member of National Science and Technology Council.
BNL has greatly contributed to the successful commercialization of SR-hGH (Declage) in collaboration with LG Lifesciences, artificial bone graft (BonePlus) with MegaGen, post-surgical adhesion prevention solution (Medicurtain) with ShinPoong Pharmaceuticals and EGF cosmedicals (PHI-EGF) with PHI BioMed. Recently, BNL has developed smart contact lenses for ubiquitous healthcare supported by the Samsung Futuristic Technology Foundation. Prof. Hahn worked as a consultant for Johnson & Johnson in New Jersey and made a collaboration contract with Hoffman-La Roche. He founded a bio-venture company of “PHI BioMed” in 2014. He is a member of Samsung Future Technology Committee and the National Science and Technology Council.
