- Making Maps in the Brain
-
- - Michael Stryker, Ph.D., University of California, San Francisco (2010/03/04)
- - Category : Wednesday Afternoon Lectures
- Dr. Stryker???s laboratory's major research interest is the role of neural activity in the development and plasticity of precise connections within the central nervous system. Most of the work of the laboratory is on the visual system, and particularly on the developing visual cortex. In this structure, as is likely to be the case in many areas of the brain, the major excitatory inputs initially make connections that are approximately correct topographically but are functionally diffuse.

- Protein Network Comparative Genomics
-
- - Trey Ideker, UCSD (2010/03/04)
- - Category : Proteomics
- With the appearance of large networks of protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions as a new type of biological measurement, methods are needed for constructing cellular pathway models using interaction data as the central framework. The key idea is that, by comparing the molecular interaction network with other biological data sets, it will be possible to organize the network into modules representing the repertoire of distinct functional processes in the cell. Three distinct types of network comparisons will be discussed.
