-
- - The NIH Work/Life Center (WLC) (2010/03/04)
- - Category : Work/Life Center
- A common complaint in the workplace and in the family domain is a ???lack of respect.??? We all need to send important information and messages at work and at home and we need to be maximizing the ability of the receiver to hear it. Therefore, we need to focus on communication that is constructive. This workshop is designed to identify the critical elements of respectful communication.
The NIH Work/Life Center (WLC), in cooperation with the NIH Employee Assistance Program, presents the seventh annual ???Faces & Phases of Life??? seminar series for fall 2004.

- Dissecting Disease Biology and Advancing Medicine with Small Molecules

- - Stuart L. Schreiber, Ph.D., Harvard University (2010/03/04)
- - Category : Wednesday Afternoon Lectures
- Pharmaceutical companies develop small-molecule therapeutic drugs in part by drawing upon government-sponsored research performed in universities and other non-profit institutions. Academic labs have recently transitioned towards the integration of small-molecule synthesis, small-molecule screens, and informatics with the primary goal of illuminating principles that underlie biology and disease. My lecture aims to provide insight into the development of one such example of the latter, the Broad Institute's Chemical Biology Program (BCB; formerly Harvard's ICCB), which is sponsored by the NCI through their Initiative for Chemical Genetics (ICG) and the NIGMS through their Centers of Excellence in Chemical Methodology and Library Development (CMLD).

The primary educational objective of these seminars is to provide new information, ideas, and discussion about timely areas of research with impact on the field of oncology. A secondary educational objective is to elicit participation by individuals from all divisions of the intramural NCI, and thus facilitate more interactions among investigators and groups in the NCI.
