Structural Studies on the Specificity of the CML Drug STI-571/Gleevec
John Kuriyan is interested in the construction, mechanism, and regulation of the molecular machines and switching devices that carry out signal transduction and DNA replication. His laboratory uses x-ray crystallography to determine the three-dimensional structures of the component proteins, along with biochemical and biophysical analyses to elucidate mechanisms.

- Using Genetic Tests to Promote Health: Evidence and Values
-
- - Wylie Burke, M.D., Ph.D., University of Washington (2010/03/04)
- - Category : Wednesday Afternoon Lectures
- The concept of personalized medicine ??? tailoring health care to an individual???s genetic profile - represents a central promise of the Human Genome Project. Genetic information is already used to guide the management of some health risks. However, critics have questioned whether the model of personalized medicine can serve as the basis for broad changes in health care, citing inadequate evidence and theoretical limitations in the predictive value of genetic information. Over time, many evidence gaps will be closed. Important questions will remain: What level of risk is sufficient for health care action? What resources are needed for an effective response to genetic risk? Addressing these questions will require attention to the personal and societal values that inform preventive health care.

- Do you wonder why your child doesn't listen to you? Children's thought processes are not like adults'. They develop along a specific timeline. Come learn how children develop thinking and reasoning processes, and explore strategies for better family communication.
The NIH Work/Life Center, in conjunction with the Employee Assistance Program, is pleased to announce the "Faces and Phases of Life" seminar series. This successful series brings expert speakers to campus to address a broad range of quality of work and quality of life issues.
