This Report was written by the National Research Council(NRC) under contract to the National Science Foundation, Division of Science Resources Studies. It was originally published in April of 1998, under the same title. This report profiles the demographic and employment characteristics of doctorate-level scientists and engineers in the United States in a descriptive manner. The data presented in the report were collected through the 1995 Survey of Doctorate Recipients(SDR), twelfth in a series of surveys initiated in 1973 by the National Research Council(NRC) in response to the needs of the federal government for demographic and emplyment information on scientists and engineers trained at the doctoral level.

The data presented in this report were compiled from the National Science Foundation's(NSF's) fiscal year(FY) 1996 Survey of Research and Development Expenditures at Universities and Colleges(academic R&D expenditures survey). They refer to science and engineering expenditures for separately budgeted research and development(R&D). Terms used in institutional accounting procedures are incorporated throughout the tables.

Federal R&D Funding by Budget Function: Fiscal Years 1997-98 - An SRS Special Report 스크랩

This annual report contains information on Federal funding of the research and development(R&D) components of agency programs, as proposed by the administration for fiscal year(FY)1998. R&D data in this report are classified into the same Federal budget function categories used in the Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year 1998. Proposed FY 1998 funding levels are for budget authority(defined below), which is the basis for initial congressional action. In future Budget Function report, these data will be revised to reflect congressional appropriation and actual program funding decisions. Detailed data are included on preliminary estimstes for Federal funding of R&D in FY 1997 that reflect all past congressional actions, but may be revised since, at the time of report preparation; FY 19997 had not yet been complited. This report also includes detailed data(by subfunction) on actual budget authorizations of R&D by Federal agencies in FY 1996, and aggregate data (by broad function)on actual R&D budget authorizations in FY 1995 and earlier years.
