Over 150 organizations have participated with EPRI and its members in shaping a comprehensive vision of the opportunities to increase electricity's value to society. This vision is being translated into a set of technology development destinations and the research and development (R&D) pathways to reach these destinations. EPRI is leading this ongoing roadmapping effort as an investment in the future, and as guidance for strengthening the value of public and private R&D investment. ※ 회의개요 세포 생물학분야와 분자 유전학의 연구 대상으로 많이 이용되어지고 있는 Fission yeast의 국제 학회가 지난 3월 일본 교토에서 개최되었다. 학회의 연륜은 금년이 2회째로 아직은 짧은 편에 속하지만 오랜 기간 세포생물학과 유전학의 표본 모델로 연구되어진 만큼, 세계 각국의 많은 연구자들이 참석하여 많은 연구 결과들을 발표하고 토론하는 학회였다. 특히 올해는 Fission yeast의 세포 분열기작 연구로 Paul Nurse와 Tim Hunt 연구자들이 공동으로 노벨상을 수상함으로써 새로워진 학회의 위상과 함께 감시 조절 기작(Checkpoint Control), 생물정보학(Bioinformatics), 그리고 Fission 게놈 프로젝트(Fission Genome Project)등 보다 다양한 세포생물학 분야에 대한 토론들이 이루어졌다. ※ 이 학회의 보고서는 고려대학교 생명공학원의 김인규님께서 수고해 주셨습니다. 궁금하신 점은 김인규님께 문의하시기 바랍니다. e-mail : in1imp@hotmail.com

93rd AOCS Annual Meeting Expo 스크랩

※ 93rd AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo (제 93차 미국 유지질협회 정기학회) ※ 회의개요 본 학회는 식물성 기름, fats, soaps, surfactants, detergents 기타 관련분야를 총망라하는 lipid 분야에 있어서 세계적으로 권위를 인정받고 있는 학회로서 올해로서 93회를 맞았다. 올해에는 캐나다의 몬트리올시 Congress center에서 열렸으며 일요일(2002년 5월 5일) 저녁 opening mixer를 시작으로 수요일(2002년 5월 8일) 오후까지 3박 4일 동안 2000여명이 참석한 가운데 60개 이상의 session에서 500개 이상의 oral presentation 과 150 여 개의 poster가 발표되었다. 전체적으로 볼 때 lipid와 관련된 대부분의 중요한 topic들이 다루어졌으며 주로 미국actants and Detergents Short Course) 가 함께 open 되었다. ※ 이 학회의 보고서는 전북대학교 생물공학부의 김학렬님께서 수고해 주셨습니다. 궁금하신 점은 김학렬님께 문의하시기 바랍니다. e-mail : sjlee@ameslab.gov

※ 단백질 의약품 개발에 있어서 해독후 변형 및 화학적 변형의 영향(The Impact of Post-Translational & Chemical Modifications on Protein Therapeutics) ※ 회의개요 5월 8일부터 10일까지 3일간에 걸쳐 “단백질 의약품 개발에 있어서 해독후 변형 및 화학적 변형의 영향” 이란 주제로 미국 샌디에고에서 개최된 본 학술강연회에는 약 200여 명의 과학자가 참가한 가운데Amgen, Genentech, GlaxoSmithKline, Elli Lilly, Centocor 등 세계 생명공학 분야를 선도하는 회사에서 오랫동안 실무경험을 쌓은 전문가들의 강연이 이어졌다. GlaxoSmithKline, Amgen, Centocor등에서 나온 연사들이 당단백질의 생산공정 개발과정에 사용되고 있는 다양한 분석기법을 소개하였고, GlycArt Biotechnology, UCLA, University of Birmingham에서 나온 연사들은 치료용 당단백질에 있어서 탄수화물의 역할과 중요성을 강조하였으며, 이 밖에 다양한 단백질 변형에 대한 실례 및 분석방법 그리고 원치 않는 단백질 변형을 방지할 수 있는 방법 등의 주제가 다루어졌다 ※ 이 학회의 보고서는 Applied Molecular Evolution의 박철호님께서 수고해 주셨습니다. 궁금하신 점은 박철호님께 문의하시기 바랍니다. e-mail : cpark@amevolution.com chparkca@yahoo.com

◈ Program Title: Summer Programs in Japan, Korea and Taiwan for U.S. Graduate Students in Science and Engineering ◈ Synopsis of Program: The Summer Programs in Japan, Korea and Taiwan provide U.S. graduate students in science and engineering first-hand research experience in Japan, Korea and Taiwan, an introduction to science and science policy infrastructure of the respective countries, and orientation to the culture and language. The primary goals of the programs are to introduce students to Japanese, Korean and Taiwaness science and engineering in the context of a research laboratory, and to initiate personal relationships that will better enable them to callaborate with foreign counterparts in the future. The programs will last approximately eight weeks(from June to August) and are administered in the United States by the National Science Foundation(NSF)with co-sponsorship by the National Institutes of Health(NIH).
