    Richard Barnes serves as senior web designer of the NIH.gov website within the OD Online Information Branch at the National Institutes of Health. He began his career in graphic design three decades ago at USDA, when cut-and-paste required an X-ACTO knife and hot wax. (Yes, he has the scars to prove it!) At NIH, Richard produced award-winning print design in the Medical Arts and Photography Branch before being captivated by the Wild World of Web in the mid-nineties.

    Flora Qian is the tech lead and architect for the NIH.gov Drupal CMS and brings more than twenty years of experience in software development across a wide range of technologies and platforms.

    Prior to joining the NIH Web team in 2013, she served as Web manager, tech lead and lead engineer at various organizations and designed and developed many web, mobile and software systems.

    Flora Qian has a Master?? degree in Biomedical Engineering, and she is always fascinated by emerging technologies. In her spare time, she volunteers for non-profit organizations with her IT expertise in Washington DC.

It also serves as a forum for initial ??oncept clearance,??the review of ideas for new initiatives before they become funding announcements. In addition, the working group ensures that each of the BRAIN IC Advisory Councils is informed about BRAIN Initiatives, awards and progress ??a critical point as the individual IC Advisory Councils will perform the formal second level of review of BRAIN Initiative applications.     ACHDNC provides expert advice and recommendations to the Secretary about the development of newborn screening activities, technologies, policies, guidelines, and programs for effectively reducing morbidity and mortality in newborns and children having, or at risk for, heritable disorders. In addition, the Committee?? recommendations regarding additional conditions/heritable disorders for screening that have been adopted by the Secretary are included in the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP) and constitute part of the comprehensive guidelines supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration. The committee is composed of 15 voting members. The Committee will hear presentations and discussions on topics including an introduction on sequencing and potential impact on newborn screening and public health, screening for Lysosomal Storage Disorders, newborn screening timeliness, pilot studies for future nominated conditions, and the National Contingency Plan for Newborn Screening. The Committee will hear updates from the Laboratory Standards and Procedures workgroup, Follow-up and Treatment workgroup, and Education and Training workgroup, Timeliness Workgroup, and the Cost Analysis Workgroup. Tentatively, the Committee is expected to review and/or vote on the recommendations regarding the information needed from pilot studies for future nominated conditions. This vote does not involve a proposed addition of a condition to the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel.
